Alerts

On iPhone, checks where you are only while it’s open on screen. That’s a limit Apple puts on every web app, not a bug. Keep it open on the way and it alerts you the moment you arrive.

How it works

Save a reminder at a place. When you get there with open, it tells you right away.

Set one up

Tap +

Write what you need to do, like “Pick up challah.”

Pick the place

Search a store or address, or tap the map to drop the pin right where you want it.

Choose how close

The radius is how near you need to be. 250 m works for most stores. Go bigger for a whole mall or campus.

Options

Once or every visit

Once is for a one-off errand. Every visit reminds you each time you arrive, like “grab the mail at the office.”

Only between certain hours

Add a time window and it stays quiet outside it. Arrive at 11 PM with a 9–5 window and nothing goes off.

Start date

Set it for later and it waits under Upcoming until that day comes.

Any shul, groceries, times

Any shul

Pick Any shul instead of one place. It reminds you at whichever shul you pass. Add Until shkia and it's a Mincha reminder that only goes off while there's still time.

Groceries

Any grocery uses the public map. Only mine uses the stores you saved. Kosher grocery comes from stores people add. Tap Got it and it stays quiet for the rest of the day.

Add a place

Saved places stay on your phone. Turn on Add to the public list and others can use it too. New places show as new until a few people confirm them.

At a time

No place needed. Pick a day and time, once, every day or every week. On iPhone it rings only while Derman is open.

When you arrive

You get an alert

A card pops up with a chime. Tap Mark done, or Later. If notifications are on, a banner shows too.

In the list

Swipe right to finish

Or tap the circle. It moves to Done, with Undo if you slip.

Swipe left to delete

Tap a reminder to change anything about it.

Pause

Inside a reminder, turn it off for now without losing it. Turn it back on any time.

Good to know

Keep Derman open on the way

iPhone doesn’t let web apps check location in the background, so Derman watches while it’s on screen. The Watching badge up top means it’s checking.

Add it to your Home Screen

In Safari tap Share, then Add to Home Screen. It opens full screen and can show notifications.

Your reminders stay on your phone.

Location reminders depend on your device, operating system, permissions, battery settings, and GPS or network availability, and may arrive late or not at all. Limitation of liability

To the fullest extent permitted by law, Eli Engel and VEXO Team will not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, or for any loss arising from the use of or inability to use the App, including missed or late reminders.

Privacy

Your reminders, your saved places and your location stay on your device. There are no accounts and no tracking.

What leaves the phone, and only this: place searches go to the Photon search service (Komoot), and map images load from Esri. For zmanim, a rounded area point, about 10 km across, goes to Hebcal. For “Any shul” and grocery reminders, the same kind of rounded area goes to the shared list so it can send back the shuls and groceries nearby.

The shared list holds only public places: a name, a point on the map, whether it's confirmed, and Yes/No counts. If you choose to add a place to it, only that place's name and pin are sent. When you answer “Is it here?”, the answer is tied to a random code made on your phone, only so each phone gets one vote. Feedback you send is stored as text only, with no name, email or location. To limit junk, the server counts requests per connection per day using a one-way scramble. Raw IP addresses are not stored.

Enforcement

Unauthorized copying or use of the App may violate copyright and other laws and may result in civil and criminal penalties. All rights not expressly granted are reserved.

Add to Home Screen

Put on your Home Screen and it opens full screen like a regular app. It’s also the only way iPhone allows notifications from a web app.

Scroll down the list if you don’t see it, then tap Add.

Open Derman from the icon

Allow location, and notifications if you want banners. Your reminders from Safari don’t carry over, so add them there.
